On y trouve :
The "Place du Tribunal", or court square, is a very lively place. It is the heart of the old city of Grenoble.
There you will find:
  • Lots of cafés and restaurants. Sophie and Julien meet there for a drink. Among these cafés, the second older café of France, as mentioned in the novel.
  • The statue of the Bayard knight. A very famous French knight, known from every French schoolboy. He was supposed to be a fearless and blameless warrior and was born in the fifteenth century, in the Grenoble area.
  • The Saint-André church, also another historical building of the town, were Julien will have an apparition of Sophie, while trying desperately to call her.
  • And, to finish with, the court, 'le tribunal', a building from the seventeenth century (the building started in the fifteenth century), which was first the parliament of Grenoble, then, the court, until about year 2000, when it became much too small for a quickly growing town.

And next to the statue, typical old buildings, and lots of cafés and restaurants.

The bell tower of saint-André church, with the stunning view of the Belledonne mountain chain.
And to finish with, the entrance of the church.
I hope you enjoyed this visit.
Next time, we will go and go to Villard de Lans, the town in the Vercors mountain were the kidnappers are hiding Sophie.

See you soon...
