Dans le roman, le premier cadavre est retrouvé dans l’ancien baptistère de la ville. Il est situé au sous-sol du musée de l’Ancien Évêché, un musée qui retrace l’histoire de la ville, et dont je vous recommande vivement la visite. En plus, il est gratuit ! Donc, ce serait dommage de se priver, si d’aventure vos pas vous amènent à Grenoble. Nous publions ces photos avec l’aimable autorisation d’Isabelle Lazier, conservatrice du musée de l’ancien Évêché.
Les travaux de la première ligne de tramway ont permis de retrouver l’ancien baptistère, dont la trace s’était effacée à travers les siècles. Ils ont donc été momentanément interrompus pour laisser la place à des fouilles. Vous trouverez d'autres photographies sur le site du musée.
The first corpse was found in the old baptistery of the city.
It is located in the basement of the museum of the ancient bishopric (musée de l’Ancien Évêché), a museum which recalls the history of the city. I can only recommand you to visit it, in case your steps take you to Grenoble. The entrance is free, so don't hesitate !

The construction of the first tramway line in the late 80s lead to the discovery of the ancient baptistery. The remembrance of this monument was lost in the previous centuries.
Archeological excavations have thus stopped momentarily the construction.

L’ancien évêché jouxte la cathédrale de Grenoble dans laquelle Julien a vu entrer la jeune fille à la robe blanche qu’il suivait. De construction fin roman, début gothique, nous sommes loin du style des cathédrales de Strasbourg ou de Paris !
Devant la cathédrale de Grenoble, l’emplacement du baptistère, situé en sous-sol, est matérialisé sur le trottoir.
The ancient bishopric is close to the Grenoble cathedral where Julien followed the lady dressed in white.
Constructed at the end of the roman period and at the beginning of the gothic period, it is very different from the most famous French cathedrals (Paris, Strasbourg, Reims...)
In front of the cathedral, the location of the baptistery in the basement is represented on the floor.
In the basement, the excavations have enabled to find the roman walls of the city of Grenoble, called Gratianopolis at that time.

Et voilà enfin les fameux restes du baptistère. C’est donc là que va être retrouvée Monica, première victime du tueur.
Des vieilles pierres très bien mises en valeur, même si cela ne saute pas forcément aux yeux ici.
Finally, here are the remains of the old baptistery, where Monica, first victim of the killer, was found. Old stones nicely exhibited (though it might not be so obvious on the pictures)
Et en face de l’ancien évêché, les bâtiments de l’évêché actuel, dans lequel nos protagonistes rencontrent le père Valjoney à plusieurs reprises.
